Asphalt Shingles
Most homes in the US use asphalt shingles, which can be reinforced with fiberglass materials. Asphalt shingles are affordable and have a Class A fire rating and are algae resistant. Additionally, asphalt shingles are relatively easy to install and replace when needed.
Asphalt shingles come in different colors, styles, and warranty periods, which our sales team can help you select. They are by far the most commonly installed shingles across the greater Kansas City area.
IMPACT RESISTANT (IR) SHINGLES
These asphalt shingles have additional material modifiers that provide protection against severe weather and hail impact. They carry a UL 2218 Class 3 or 4 certification and can oftentimes provide homeowners savings on their insurance premiums, depending on their carrier and location.
Shingles carrying a Class 3 rating have been tested to withstand up to 1.75" hail, while Class 4 shingles up to 2.00" in diameter. In the event they are irreparably damaged in a storm, insurance will still cover their replacement.
CLAY & CONCRETE TILES
Tile is a durable roofing material that comes in various profiles, colors, and textures. The most widely-recognized tile roofing styles are Mission and Spanish-style homes or flat styles to create French and English looks. This is particularly popular in some Kansas City neighborhoods, including the area surrounding the Country Club Plaza.
But be forewarned: tile is heavy. If you are replacing another type of roof system with tile, you will need to verify that your home’s structure can support the load.
